Digestive Disorders and What You Can Do
Now that Thanksgiving is over, let’s take a look at the wondrous digestive system. The primary function of the digestive system is to break down the food we eat into smaller parts so the body can use them to build and nourish cells and provide energy. The digestive process is complex, yet simple remedies or adjustments in the diet can solve many, if not most, digestive disorders.
Over the years I have come to fully appreciate the importance of a healthy digestive system. It is the first system I want to make sure is functioning optimally when I review a patient’s overall health history. Spinal adjustments, acupuncture and abdominal massage can help significantly, but often the root of the problem stems from lack of enzymes, hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid), food allergies, gluten intolerance, and other known causes including psychological stressors.
Symptoms of gastric distress give us a clue that all is not well and should not be ignored. The discomfort of digestive distress causes millions of people to suffer daily and limit their quality of life. Pure and simple – if you are regularly experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, you may develop other health conditions, such as osteoporosis, due to malabsorption of vital nutrients.
Getting an accurate diagnosis is crucial
The way most people treat their symptoms is with over-the-counter medications or prescription drugs. Unfortunately, these medications are not without risk. In fact, proton pump inhibitors such as Nexium, are a risk factor for osteoporosis. If you feel that you have not been properly diagnosed or want to learn more, please join me at one of my free teleseminars.
